At the MGMA Annual Conference in October, Cindy Welch joined me in a presentation to talk about how she overcame challenges that virtually every practice faces today—including higher co-payments, HDHPs, uninsured patients, inaccurate insurance information, staff’s reluctance to ask patients for money, and patients’ reluctance to pay.
The annual MGMA conference gives medical practices an opportunity to learn, collaborate and network with peers. Always Forward was the theme for this year’s conference held in Las Vegas this year. One topic everyone seemed to be talking about was next year’s ICD-10 deadline.
On our MGMA 14 interview with the CEO of Navicure, Jim Denny talks about how forward-thinking medical practices are handling the rise in patient responsibility due to higher deductibles and co-pays. He also talks about the lack of progress made in transitioning to ICD-10.
MGMA reported over 4700 attendees at the conference and more than 300 exhibitors at MGMA14 in Las Vegas. At the conference I had the opportunity to meet several of the participants to chat with them on why they were there and what they were bringing to exhibit.
Going along with this year’s theme of Always Forward, it came as no surprise that many companies made a point to demonstrate the ways they are working toward proactive healthcare. Be it through predictive analytics, care coordination, quality measurement, or patient engagement, the overarching goals to help practices better meet the needs of their patients, to address the issues that impact healthcare, and to drive excellence shined through.
At MGMA14 in Las Vegas, we spoke with Greg White, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Allscripts TouchWorks business unit. In the interview, Greg shared his thoughts on how open platform systems are key to advancing interoperability.
