Word’s Largest Telemedicine Conference

If you live within driving distance of Austin, Texas, or looking for a great excuse to get there, then check out the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) Annual meeting.  ATA 2013 bills itself as the world’s largest meeting and trade show event devoted to telemedicine and mobile health. This year’s 18th annual event will be held May 5 – 7, at the Austin Convention Center.  There is still time find a last minute flight to register to attend.

The conference will host over 500 educational sessions and scientific ePosters, highlighting the latest innovations, applications and delivery models in telemedicine.  ePosters are educational presentations viewable at kiosks located in the Convention center and made available on the ATA 2013 website as they come online.

If you’re a developer and/or entrepreneur in the telemedicine and mHealth space, then you may want to look at attending ATA’s inaugural Telemedicine Venture Fair. The fair offers a forum for education, collaboration and networking opportunities for start-ups. The Fair also includes a panel of experts from the investment community who will share advice on how to form strategic partnerships, where to look for venture financing and give an update on where the telehealth market is going.

The line-up of keynote speakers at this year’s meeting includes:

  • Lynn Britton, President & CEO, Mercy.  Mercy was named the 2012 “Most Wired” healthcare organization by the American Hospital Organization.
  • Jeffrey Henley, Chairman, Oracle Corporation.
  • Reed Tuckson, MD, Managing Director, Tuckson Health Connections.  Tuckson is a former Senior Vice President of the AMA and and former Commissioner of Public Health for the District of Columbia.

Finally, the ATA 2013 Trade Show will have exhibitors from every market segment in the industry. This year’s exhibit includes some of the biggest companies in telemedicine including GlobalMed, AT&T, Qualcomm, and AMD Global Telemedicine.
