DataMotion, a health information service provider (HISP) with the industry’s leading record of customer deployments and Meaningful Use Stage 2 (MU2) attestations, announced the DataMotion™ Direct Community Web Portal. Through the service, Eligible Hospitals (EH) and Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) can begin attestation for the transition of care objectives of MU2 by enabling the secure transfer of protected health information (PHI) from one care setting to another, even if an affiliate provider is not equipped with Direct Secure Messaging (Direct) or certified EHR system. The Portal will include a Continuity of Care Document (CCDs) Viewer that overcomes a further industry obstacle by allowing the receiving healthcare provider(s) to easily view these files without the expense of additional EHR software. Cerner Corporation (Nasdaq: CERN) and Siemens AG announced they signed a definitive agreement for Cerner to acquire the assets of Siemens’ health information technology business unit, Siemens Health Services, for $1.3 billion in cash. According to the press release issued by Cerner, by combining investments in R&D, knowledgeable resources, and complementary client bases, the acquisition creates scale for future innovation. As part of the agreement, Cerner and Siemens will form a strategic alliance to bring new solutions to market that combine Cerner’s health IT leadership and Siemens’ strengths in medical devices and imaging. athenahealth, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHN), a provider of cloud-based services for electronic health record (EHR), practice management, and care coordination, and Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health, and medical practitioners, announced an expansion of their strategic agreement announced on May 21, 2014. Under the expanded agreement, athenahealth’s athenaNet® platform and Henry Schein’s Dentrix® Enterprise, the leading Electronic Dental Record (EDR) solution installed in Community Health Centers (CHCs) across the United States, will integrate to facilitate Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting, which is a requirement for CHCs, including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). Qualifacts Systems, Inc., the largest Software-as-a-Service electronic health record (EHR) provider for the behavioral health and human services industries, announced that it has secured a majority investment from Great Hill Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm with more than $3 billion under management. The recapitalization, which was led by Great Hill Partners and existing Qualifacts management, will allow the company to accelerate product development and expand sales and marketing efforts. Clearwater Compliance announced former OCR investigator Michelle Caswell, JD, will be joining the company as Senior Director, Legal and Compliance.
During her time with OCR, Caswell conducted and coordinated investigations of covered entities; prepared investigative reports and letters of findings; and developed strategies for the investigation, data collection and analysis for complaints related to HIPAA.
