SHIEC Appoints New Interim Executive Director
The Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (#SHIEC) Board announced the nonprofit has hired Pam Matthews, RN, MBA, FHIMSS, CPHIMS, to perform interim executive director duties for SHIEC. SHIEC also launched a search for a permanent executive director, taking the opportunity to identify health IT leaders capable of taking the helm of an organization that represents many of the largest, most established and dynamic health information exchanges in the country. The SHIEC board initiated this process when Bob Steffel stepped down from the executive director position on March 22 due to personal reasons.
Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network (WISHIN)
In October 2010 Wisconsin officially announced its intention to designate WISHIN (@WISHIN_Pulse), a not-for-profit organization formed by the Wisconsin Hospital Association, Wisconsin Medical Society, Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality, and Wisconsin Health Information Organization, as the State-designated entity to govern statewide HIE. DE on October 25, 2010. WISHIN is responsible for implementing Wisconsin’s Strategic and Operational Plan. The plan requires multi-stakeholder collaboration and emphasizes ongoing development of government and policy structures.
WISHIN to the Rescue – In the early hours of March 14th, the staff of Door County Medical Center was facing a nightmare situation: after a routine planned data migration, the hospital’s electronic health record system failed to restore. While the EHR system was “down,” staff and providers moved to paper backup processes with pre-printed forms, handwritten notes, and blank folders. Then they thought of WISHIN. DCMC has been sharing clinical data with the WISHIN network for two and a half years. Why not use WISHIN Pulse as a temporary replacement for the clinical history stored within DCMC’s EHR?
New York -Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY)
The SHIN-NY is the only HIE that provides universal access regardless of network or EHR system. New York State has made a significant investment in the SHIN-NY and in 2016 they set a goal of connecting 100% of the PPS across the state to the SHIN-NY. The eight RHIOs that make up the SHIN-NY are working directly with the PPS organizations to meet their needs.

Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN)
Georgia Health Information Network (@GeorgiaHIE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a healthier Georgia by facilitating the use and secure exchange of electronic health information so providers have the information they need at the point of care. GaHIN’s two products, GeorgiaDirect and Georgia ConnectedCare, connect providers statewide and nationally and are free for credentialed, authorized Georgia users.
Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates Connects to GaHIN – Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates, one of the largest gastroenterology practices in the country, has connected with GaHIN. AGA is now live with GaHIN’s Georgia ConnectedCare product, which features a robust patient search functionality that lets providers quickly access patient health data from hospitals, physician practices, state health systems and more. This includes records such as medical history, previous diagnoses, lab tests, medications and allergies. Additionally, GaHIN provides access to Medicaid health, dental and pharmacy information managed by the Georgia Department of Community Health.
Colorado Regional Health Information Exchange (CORHIO)
CORHIO (@CORHIO) manages one of the country’s largest and most successful health information exchange networks and works to improve healthcare through the use of information technology and data exchange.
CORHIO and Centura Health Partner to Improve Care for ACO Patients – A recent report, Building Custom Solutions for Real-Time Care Coordination, outlines the successful collaboration between CORHIO and the Colorado Health Neighborhood, Centura’s physician-led managed care network caring for more than 160,000 patients. The report was published by the Accountable Care Learning Collaborative, a learning network of ACO leaders who are dedicated to helping providers succeed in risk-bearing payment models.
Ambulatory Care Summaries Now Available in CORHIO Health Information Exchange Network – CORHIO is now displaying thousands of clinical documents, such as Continuity of Care Documents and OASIS assessments, from a number of physician practices, health clinics, and other ambulatory providers in our secure web portal PatientCare 360.
Vermont Information Technology Leaders (VITL)
VITL (@VITLVT) is the nonprofit organization that advances health care reform efforts in Vermont through the use of health information technology, and is the legislatively designated operator of the state’s Vermont Health Information Exchange (VHIE).
Vermont Providers will Receive More Patient Information with VITL CCD Project – Patient care summaries from Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital are now available through the Vermont Health Information Exchange using VITLAccess, the secure provider portal. The addition of this important source of information allows providers like Caledonia Home Health Care & Hospice to see complete summaries of the care their patients received from the hospital.
Utah Health Information Network (UHIN)
UHIN (#UHIN) has been in operation since 1993 beginning as a claims “post office.” Today it also operates the Clinical Health Information Exchange (cHIE), which empowers doctors and patients to work together for safer, better-coordinated care by making crucial information available to doctors at the point of care.
UHIN Offers New Electronic Eligibility Tool – UHIN is pleased to introduce its electronic eligibility tool. It is the first tool in the new MYUHIN portal. The new MYUHIN portal will house all UHIN’s clearinghouse and HIE tools in one convenient location, allowing users to access all the tools with just one login. The new electronic eligibility tool is included in the services of existing clearinghouse clients for no additional charge.
Healthcare Access San Antonio (HASA)
Healthcare Access San Antonio (@HASA_TX) offers value-based, patient-centered information services intended to improve the health status of individuals and the communities it serves. HASA brings together healthcare providers from larger health systems to single physician practices-to enable the secure exchange of health information throughout Central Texas, ensuring that providers have this information securely at their fingertips when and where they need it.
San Antonio Health Care Group Looks to Ease Burden on Texas Docs – Healthcare Access San Antonio, an organization created to build and operate a health information exchange for the region, has cleared a major hurdle that will expand its scope. HASA has been designated as a qualified registry by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. That designation will allow HASA to provide support to physicians and other eligible health care providers, helping them meet clinical reporting requirements and secure Medicare payments that may otherwise have gone uncollected.

Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN)
KHIN capitalizes on the unique strengths that local communities and regions bring to the HIE and ensure that individual regions or communities have the decision-making authority to address local or regional health-care initiatives.
KHIN to Serve as Model for Connecticut HIE – The Connecticut State Medical Society is partnering with KaMMCO Health Solutions to establish a statewide, physician-led health information network that will launch in late-summer. Matthew Katz, CSMS executive vice president and CEO, said by partnering with KHS, CSMS benefits from a proven model developed by Kansas Health Information Network, as well as the analytics tools developed based upon input and feedback from a pilot group of physicians and hospitals.
Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE)
Indiana Health Information Exchange (@IndianaHIE) operates the nation’s largest health information exchange, providing a secure, robust and interoperable health information technology network that connects over 150 hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, community health clinics and other healthcare providers.
