ONC to Host eConsent Pilot Program Roundtable

The ONC will be hosting an upcoming roundtable event on October 22nd to discuss the launch of their  eConsent pilot project. The roundtable will discuss why the ONC initiated the eConsent project, the important role of informed patient choice (or patient consent) in electronic health information exchange (eHIE), and announce the launch of the eConsent pilot. The discussion will be led by Joy Pritts, Chief Privacy Officer, Kathryn Marchesini, eConsent Project Lead, and other members of the ONC.

  • The importance of providing patients with meaningful choice and efforts designed to help reduce burdens on health care providers about informing patients about their choice.
  • The piloting of interactive technology to deliver educational material to patients about their option to make an individual choice about whether or not their health care provider can access their health information through a health information exchange (HIE).
  • The capability of electronically capturing a patient’s choice (or consent decision) in a health care provider facility.
