Upcoming Health IT Conferences

Checking in on our Marketplace Event Calendar for October we find more fall conferences and events you might be interested in. Starting with the ONC’s HIT Policy and Standards Committees. The HIT Policy Committee will meet on October 3 and the HIT Standards Committee on the 17th. Look for locations and agenda to be announced soon. As always you can join the meeting by webcast.

Head up to Chicago on the 1st to catch the 84th AHIMA Convention & Exhibit. Health information management professionals from all areas of health informatics and information management will come together for a week-long focus on HIM’s global transformation. Catch the pre-conference on Sept 29 and 30 and the post conference workshop on the 4th. The conference promises to be one of the most educationally stimulating and exciting conferences held during 2012.

At the same time in Austin Texas, the world’s largest communications and technology event returns to the Austin Convention Center on the 2nd to the 5th. ITEXPO brings together the entire communications and technology community for a week of business-building and researching today’s most powerful communications solutions. Enterprise, government and SMB end users, resellers, service providers, manufacturers, developers, media and analysts gather to examine solutions in conference sessions, demo products and services live on the expo floor, and forge beneficial relationships.

And also on October 2nd and 3rd the 2012 Western States Health-e Connection Summit & Trade Show will take place at the Phoenix Convention Center. This will be the 6th annual regional summit and the theme is “The New Reality: Changes, Challenges and Champions. This is an Arizona Health-e Connection (AzHeC) event with co-sponsors HIMSS AZ Chapter, AMIA, and AZ HIMA.

This year the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) will hold their annual conference in Washington DC beginning on the 7th. The society has a membership of nearly 6000 healthcare risk management and patient safety professionals. ASHRM is committed to promoting awareness about the critical role healthcare risk managers and patient safety professionals hold as thought leaders and change agents in the journey to eliminating preventable serious safety events. Their keynote speakers will include some well know political news pundits, CNN’s Paul Begala and MSNBC’s Michael Steele.

The Department of Defense has been at the forefront of developing and installing Electronic Health Record Systems, serving over nine million patients, one hundred thirty thousand Medical Health System staff, over four hundred medical clinics and more than sixty military hospitals. Health care professionals in all fixed military medical facilities and in many deployed environments have access to EHRS. This outstanding conference brings together the experts from government and industry who are defining and developing the solutions to the reliability and ease of use of DoD’s EHRS and whether it is productive and cost-effective. Join the Military Electronic Health Records Conference, on the 11th and 12th in Arlington VA.

Through the eyes and voices of Nurses, a rare look into their world! An in-depth exploration of nursing, seen through the voices and lives of nurses today. This documentary film “Nurses the Movie” will premiere at the Regal Cinemas in LA on October 11, 2012 at 7:30 pm. This film is in honor of Joyce C. Clifford, PhD, RN, FAAN for her countless contributions to the profession of nursing, dedicated also to DAISY Award Recipients.

Wide River TEC, Nebraska’s Regional Extension Center announced their fall conference, Advancing HIT in Nebraska, will be on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Kearney, Nebraska. The goal of the Advancing HIT in Nebraska conference is to improve the quality of healthcare available in the state’s communities by exploring the continued use and implementation of health information technology solutions. The event seeks to inform participants about the advances being made in Nebraska while leveraging health information technology and community collaboration.

And finally, don’t miss this year’s MGMA Annual Conference in San Antonio beginning on October 21st. As always the conference focuses on education and networking. With the final decisions of health reform behind us, see what the future brings. The programs are designed to inform administrators, executives, managers, physicians, nurses, health administration students and faculty, and other business professionals involved in managing medical group practices and healthcare systems of all sizes.
