Healthcare Leadership Council Panel Discussion at HIMSS19

A special panel event at HIMSS19 with industry experts on advancing interoperability.

Ten years after the federal government’s massive investment in health information technology (HIT) through the HITECH Act, experts from across the healthcare spectrum gathered to discuss and identify progress made and where gaps remain at a special event during the HIMSS 2019 conference.

The discussion focused on what providers, manufacturers, payers, government and patients must do to enable a patient’s electronic health information to be seamlessly accessed across different settings. They discussed how success in this effort elevates healthcare quality, cost-efficiency and safety. The panel included:

  • AdventHealth – Terry Shaw, President and CEO

The Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC) (@HealthInFocus) and Bipartisan Policy Center (@BPC_Bipartisan) released a new report that recommends public and private sector actions that will advance health information technology (IT) interoperability, giving providers easier access to patients’ clinical data and empowering individuals with increased access to their own health information. The actions support better health and higher quality, safer, more cost-effective, patient-centered care. Several recommendations in the report align with proposed rules just released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC).
