Buying and Selling in Health IT Industry

In any industry that is showing growth or new paradigms, you can always count on posturing and positioning. This quarter has shown its fair share of buying and selling in the Health IT industry.

ACS (Affiliated Computer Services and Xerox company) acquired Denver based The Breakaway Group. The acquisition will give ACS a list of services for providers to achieve meaningful use and ICD-10 compliance. The standout product being the web based EHR adoption accelerator, PromisePoint.

Greenway Medical Technologies reported the completion of their acquisition of Texas bassed CySolutions the first of November. The asset acquisition brings integrated information technology for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs) to Greenway.

Siemens Healthcare has acquired PA based MobileMD a health information exchange (HIE) provider. The acquisition was all about the HIE and now Siemens has one. MobileMD operates over two dozen US information exchanges in their data centers in Mason, OH and Bethlehem PA.and being used by 110 hospitals and more than 2,000 physician practices.

IBM aquired the intelligence analytics software company i2. i2 is a British company with US headquarters in McLean VA. They will integrate into IBM’s Software Group based in Armonk, NY.

Atlanta based Ebix has acquired CT based HealthConnect Systems. Ebix is a supplier of eCommerce services for the insurance industry and HealthConnect is an online exchange of health insurance and employee benefits. They will integrate into the EbixHealth Division.

iPractice Group has acquired Nashville based Doctors Access a medical software vendor with practice management software and billing services for small practices. Doctors Access will be operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of iPractice with plans to ramp up support staff.
