Health IT Business NewsToday’s Business News

We lead off today with acquisition news on the health IT media front. Yesterday, John Lynn posted on his EMR and HIPAA blog that his company, HealthcareScene.com, has acquired Healthcare IT Central and Healthcare IT Today, two sites founded by Gwen Darling. John and Gwen are colleagues of ours and we see this as a happy marriage. John, of course, blogs and publishes a number of  sites in this space. The addition of Gwen’s sites brings the collective total of HealthcareScene.com to 15.

In the press release issued on the acquisition, John discusses the factors leading the the acquistion, saying “Workforce development is such a key part of the success of any EHR project.  When we saw what had been created by HealthcareITCentral.com, we knew we had to find a way to bring the two companies together.  Plus, we were happy to find in HealthcareITCentral.com and HealthcareITToday.com an industry leader with an impeccable reputation who approached business with the same ethics and vision that we do.”

Speaking on the acquistion, Gwen says “I always knew that the next step would be to find a larger healthcare IT network that had the ability to cast a much wider but still highly targeted net.  However, I’m protective of our excellent reputation and user experience, and so I waited to find an organization with a similar vision and focus before considering an acquisition.   HealthcareScene.com more than delivers on all counts, as both John Lynn and his network come with the highest recommendation.  I’m confident that our clients and candidates will be very happy with what comes next.”

In other media news, Ken Congdon Editor In Chief of Healthcare Technology Online, announced to the company’s susbsribers the publication will be changing its name to Health IT Outcomes. In an email from Ken he writes: “Even though the official announcement won’t take place for a couple months, we wanted to make sure our newsletter subscribers are kept in the loop. So, what’s the big change? In January 2014, Healthcare Technology Online will change its name to Health IT Outcomes.”

In addressing the question of why the name change here, Ken writes that the new name is more aligned with the publication’s mission. “everyone from the federal government to the media is preaching about the promise of health IT. Few people are focused on the results. That’s our mission. We document how health IT investments translate into cost savings, enhanced efficiency, and most importantly, better patient care. Health IT Outcomes speaks more clearly to our daily mission.”

Sounds good to us!
