Companies and Organizations Announce New Team Members

The following are announcements made from companies and organizations on the hiring and appointments in the healthcare and health IT industry.

Former Microsoft Executive Kurt DelBene To Replace Jeff Zients
Secretary Sebelius announced Kurt DelBene as my Senior Advisor and successor to Jeff Zients. In her post she states, “Jeff did an outstanding job working with our team to provide management advice and counsel on the HealthCare.gov project.” His successor will be Kurt DelBene who most recently served as president of the Microsoft Office Division.

NAMI Names Mary Giliberti as New Executive Director
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Giliberti as the new Executive Director of the national organization. Giliberti has served as a Section Chief in the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services since 2008. She previously served for three years as NAMI’s Director of Public Policy and Advocacy for federal and state issues. She also has served as Disability Counsel for the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and senior attorney at the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law. She is a graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School. After graduation from law school, she clerked for Judge Phyllis Kravitch on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Industry Veteran Dogu Celebi Joins Decision Point as Chief Medical Officer
Decision Point Healthcare Solutions (Decision Point), an innovator in providing knowledge-based decision making systems to the health care industry, announced the appointment of Dogu Celebi, MD, MPH as Chief Medical Officer. In this role, Dr. Celebi will lead Decision Point’s clinical product development and client implementation efforts.

Dr. Celebi is a leading clinical epidemiologist with more than 20 years of experience in managed care, health services research and medical informatics. He has led efforts to construct large-scale care and disease management programs, and has developed informatics solutions that measure healthcare quality, efficiency and outcomes. Dr. Celebi has created and implemented care management programs at CIGNA, and has developed the underlying clinical methodologies behind market leading predictive tools as the Chief Medical Officer at Optum.

Secretary Sebelius Announces New HHS Regional Director
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced that Kim Gillan will be appointed Region VIII Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “I am excited to welcome Kim Gillan to the team at HHS,” said Secretary Sebelius. “Kim is a long-time public servant, who brings with her a wealth of experience from her time in both the Montana House of Representatives and the Montana Senate, as well as at Montana State University. She has been actively engaged on a number of health related policy initiatives and has worked at the regional level to improve the health and well-being of all Montanans. Kim will join our team of regional directors who work tirelessly with state, local and tribal officials and external stakeholders on a wide range of health and social service issues, particularly as we continue to implement the Affordable Care Act. We look forward to adding Kim’s many strengths to the HHS team.”

Chuck Cleaver was recently named vice president and chief financial officer for Martin Health System. Cleaver is a 29-year veteran of Martin Health System, serving in a number of roles including most recently, vice president of finance. During his tenure, Cleaver has helped lead the organization through numerous changes in the health care industry, including most recently the successful conversion to new electronic medical record and patient accounting systems, and financing of Tradition Medical Center.

WellSpan Health Appoints New Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
WellSpan Health has appointed Bruce A. Solomon as executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective Jan. 6, 2014. Solomon will focus on strategies and further develop an infrastructure that will enhance operational performance, teamwork, quality of care and growth in programs across WellSpan’s local systems of care in Adams County, Lancaster County and York County. He will work with system leaders to increase efficiencies, reduce costs and promote coordinated care among the organization’s four hospitals and ambulatory services and facilities.

American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Appoints New CEO
The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has appointed Dana Woods as its new CEO. Woods will serve as the top staff executive of the California-based AACN, which is the world’s largest specialty nursing organization. As CEO, Woods will provide leadership and strategic vision to implement the work of AACN and AACN Certification Corporation, its credentialing arm.
