As a marketing person, I am, no surprise, a fan of Overrated & Underused. My favorite episode, recorded in April, still resonates as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Five months in, I think all of us can relate to feeling a certain level of paralysis and with no immediate let-up in sight. Do marketers continue to refine or pivot their messaging or take a more cautious approach through the remainder of 2020 and into 2021? Hosts Jen Jennings and Tom Testa offer compelling arguments for both sides. Also, be sure to catch the Adrienne’s Corner segment; just another reason to check out this show.

Since joining Answers Media Network in 2013, I’ve followed the career of Dr. John Halamka. I’ve watched since his days in Boston at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, to creating Unity Farm Sanctuary in 2016, to now, at the Mayo Clinic. So it was with interest that I tuned in to Conversations On Health Care when he was a guest. Especially in light of COVID-19, I was interested to know more about the COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition he launched and what it will take to fully reopen society. Episode: Dr Amy Baxter on Buzzy the Bee, Pain Blocker for Kids’ Vax Shot

Dr. Nick, with his program, The Incrementalist, always has interesting guests with useful information to share. One such show is the episode that deals with pain inhibitors. His guest, Dr. Amy Baxter is pivotal in the development of Buzzy the Bee for people that fear injections. This is directly relatable to my family’s own experiences, as I have a 9 year old daughter who is terrified of needles. After hearing this episode, I purchased a Buzzy the Bee which is a worthy innovation to help families fighting this particular battle. A small achievement bringing some incremental relief in these fearful times.

If you are part of the healthcare industry, you may have heard the sentiment that healthcare is recession proof but according to Nigel Ohrenstein, who manages Lumeris’ business development and operations in the eastern half of the U.S., healthcare is “clearly not pandemic proof.” In this episode of The Tate Chronicles, Ohrenstein discusses the financial and human toll the COVID-19 pandemic has taken on healthcare systems across the U.S. and what needs to be done to come back from the disruption. Ohrenstein sees the silver lining with the over night acceptance, use and reimbursement of telehealth and suggests business models need to pivot and focus on how to drive the right revenue back into their systems. I enjoyed this episode because while Ohrenstein is a smart businessman, his ideas about acceptance, resiliency, thinking outside of the box, and collaboration can be applied to anyone, anywhere going through the trials and tribulations of our current situation.

Episode: Steve Wilder on Developing an Active Shooter Plan for your Facility

In this episode of 1st Talk Compliance, host Catherine Short talks to Steve Wilder, Chief Operating Officer of Sorensen, Wilder & Associates about developing an active shooter plan for your facility. This is a topic that is equal parts terrifying and necessary. While one hopes that this type of plan is the one you will never see come to fruition, it is one of the most important plans any facility will ever create. This episode resonated with me as my profession outside of Answers Media Network is a public school teacher. Practicing a fire drill is a concept as old as elementary school itself and now we have a whole generation of kids growing up feeling the same way about active shooter drills. Steve Wilder stresses to make sure your plan is specific and individualized for your facility. Keep everyone at your facility in mind – patients, residents, visitors, and employees must all be considered during the planning stage. This episode will be helpful for anyone to listen to, as an active shooter can strike at any type of business, organization or building.
