It’s been approximately 10 months since COVID-19 gripped the nation, forcing delays and cancelations of healthcare appointments and elective procedures. The pandemic has taken its toll on healthcare, and health systems and healthcare marketers are now under increased pressure to fill appointments and get patients back in to see providers. Efforts are underway to improve patient engagement by identifying patients most in need of care, promoting virtual care and mental health options, and adjusting communication practices. But is it enough? Here are five patient engagement strategies to reengage your patients in their care.

Indiana Health Information Exchange

Top 5 Benefits of Health Information Exchange
As technology is on the rise, and the need for healthcare interoperability increases, it is becoming more and more critical for clinicians to quickly and meaningfully share data and access patient records. Today, health information exchanges (HIEs) around the country are working to ensure the data gap continues to decrease and all healthcare settings and electronic health information systems have the same information with a reduction in errors and duplicative treatments to avoid costly mistakes.

April 5, 2021, looms large as the deadline for healthcare providers to comply with the provisions of the information blocking final rule. The final rule, part of the 21st Century Cures Act, gives consumers unprecedented control over their own health information.

Using third-party apps of their choice, consumers will be able easily store, aggregate, use, and share both structured and unstructured electronic health information (EHI) at no cost. To optimize interoperability and manage information flow, providers will be required to adopt standardized application programming interfaces (APIs). These provisions will bring us closer to the long-awaited ideal of a patient-centered ecosystem, but compliance comes with a host of technical and administrative challenges.

This AHIMA checklist includes five strategies designed to help HIM professionals build compliance infrastructure, spark inter-departmental collaboration, and create implementation templates customized to your organization.
