Today’s MU Live! is broadcast from HIMSS12 in Las Vegas. I spent time with a dozen EHR Vendors that are here at the show to ask them a few questions. Our guests were Presidents, CEOs, CMIOs, VPs, founders, and even liaisons to Government Affairs. Three company heads are MDs by trade. Many are active members of the HIMSS Electronic Health Records Association and one is the Co-Chair of the Accountable Care Community of Practice.

First I ask them to talk about their company, their certified products, and who uses them. We had the full range of certified EHR complete and modular for ambulatory and inpatients. We had cloud based and Mac applications.

Next we talked about this year’s theme at the conference, Linking People Potential and Progress and just how their company fits this theme. While there we surprisingly different answers there was an underlying consensus that progress means getting healthcare interoperable and including the patient in taking control of their health records.

And finally, how are they preparing for the upcoming Rule to Stage 2 Meaningful Use. Not surprisingly they are all on top of what the Policy and Standards committees have recommended and are confident in smooth transition for their products. They are also all prepared to comment on the Rule which most of them experienced in Stage 1. The most interesting exchanges here were when we would actually see the new rule. We all were in agreement that last Friday came and went; the next favorite was we will see them today. But even that is looking like it won’t happen. So we might not see them at all this week says a few.

Tune into MU Live! today for its debut on Healthcare NOW Radio at 2pm ET.  Learn more about our MU Live! show.
