Spotlight on State Exchange: Vermont Information Technology Leaders (VITL)
The Vermont Legislature has named Vermont Information Technology Leaders or VITL as the operator of the Vermont Health Information Exchange, the exclusive statewide HIE for Vermont. Founded in 2005, VITL, has helped digitize almost all of the state’s hospitals and increasingly more of its physicians, while providing information exchange (powered by Aetna’s Medicity), quality reporting and analytics. The nonprofit VITL has also served as the regional extension center with the meaningful use program, and as marketing VP Steve Larose told Government Health IT, the organization is going to play a part in ensuring providers are able to meet the goals of federal and state health reforms. VITL Access is a new service being offered by VITL that gives you more complete and current information about your patients. VITL Access is a secure website that authorized health care providers and their staffs can use to search for and view information about their patients that is available in the statewide health information network, called the Vermont Health Information Exchange. It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It can be used anywhere there is Internet service, and with any of the major web browsers, on either Apple or Windows computers.

Latest News – Michael L. Gagnon, CPHIMS was appointed to chief technology officer. Gagnon brings more than 30 years of information technology experience to his new role with VITL. As chief technology officer (CTO), a newly created position, Gagnon is responsible for developing VITL’s strategic technology direction as well as overseeing infrastructure, selection and implementation of new technologies, application development, and health information security.
