ONC Publishes Federal Health IT Strategic Plan

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published the final 2020-2025 Federal Health IT Strategic Plan. The Plan outlines federal health IT goals and objectives, with a focus on individuals’ access to their electronic health information.



Right to Access Enforcement Initiative

By Art Gross – In 2019, the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced an initiative that they would make it a priority to enforce an individual’s right to access their health records in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost. This falls under the HIPAA Privacy Rule.



Tracking Physician Use and Burdens

HHS launched an initiative to measure health information technology (health IT) use among office-based physicians across the country and the ONC awarded a cooperative agreement to the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) to measure the use and potential burdens experienced by office-based physicians.



FCC, HHS, and USDA Team Up for Rural Telehealth Initiative

The FCC, HHS, and USDA announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on the Rural Telehealth Initiative, a joint effort to collaborate and share information to address health disparities, resolve service provider challenges, and promote broadband services and technology to rural areas in America.
