CMS announced that the Medicare Shared Savings Program saved money for Medicare while continuing to support high-quality care. Specifically, the program saved Medicare $1.8 billion in 2022 compared to spending targets for the year.
On May 1, 2023, CMS opened the Hardship Exception application period for eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals that participated in the Medicare Promoting Interoperability Program in calendar year 2022. The deadline for CAHs to submit a Hardship Exception application is September 1, 2023.

On August 1, 2023, the CMS issued the fiscal year 2024 Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) and long-term care hospital prospective payment system (LTCH PPS) final rule. The final rule updates Medicare fee-for-service payment rates and policies for inpatient hospitals and LTCHs for FY 2024.
