State HIE News and Updates 7-22-16

State Health Information Exchanges (HIE) come in all shapes and sizes but have one thing in common: To improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care delivered in their states. Catch all the latest updates on our Twitter List of HIEs. Here are updates being reported from these organizations.

Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN)

DHIN-twitterDelaware Health Information Network’s (@DHIN_HIE) roots reach back to 1997 when the Delaware General Assembly enacted the organization as a public/private partnership. The objective was, and remains today, to advance the creation of a statewide health information network that addresses the state’s needs for timely, reliable and relevant health care information. In 2007, DHIN “went live” – meaning it became the first operational statewide health information exchange in the nation.

Beginning this summer, DHIN consumers will be able to receive mobile alerts about their healthcare information strengthening the collaboration between patients and their health care providers. The Delaware Health Information Network in partnership with mPulse Mobile will launch a two-way messaging solution that will alert consumers via text message when medical results have been delivered to their health care teams and when their medical records have been accessed by third-party parties.

Healthcare Access San Antonio (HASA)

TX-hasa_twitterHealthcare Access San Antonio (@HASA_TX) offers value-based, patient-centered information services intended to improve the health status of individuals and the communities it serves. HASA brings together healthcare providers from larger health systems to single physician practices-to enable the secure exchange of health information throughout Central Texas, ensuring that providers have this information securely at their fingertips when and where they need it.

Local Hospitals Now Sharing Medical Records – More than 30 hospitals representing every major system in the Central Texas area are now sharing medical records. Southwest General Hospital was the final system to join, making the information exchange complete. HASA director, Gijs Van Oort explains, “We’re kind of sitting in the center, so you can think of it as a hub and spoke. We’re the hub in the center. Everybody sends us information. And we kind of collect this. We aggregate it and make it available back to the community.”

Greater Houston Healthconnect

TX-HealthConnect-twitterFormerly the Greater Houston Health Information Exchange and now renamed Greater Houston Healthconnect (@HealthconnectTX) is launching one of the largest health information networks in the country. Healthconnect is working collaboratively with the Texas Health Services Authority and the Texas HIE Coalition to provide connectivity throughout the state and to share value-added services.

Greater Houston Healthconnect Delivers Vital Integration For CHI St. Luke’s Health Clinically Integrated Network – CHI St. Luke’s Health (@CHI_StLukes) is now live in the Greater Houston Healthconnect community-based health information exchange (HIE). This connection gives CHI St. Luke’s and its regional affiliates the ability to access real-time historical patient information and diagnostic images across the Baylor St. Luke’s Health Network – its clinically integrated network which includes eight hospitals, 16 hospital-based and freestanding emergency centers, and over 1,100 physicians.

UT Physicians Coordinates Care Delivery Via Greater Houston Healthconnect – Greater Houston Healthconnect announced that UT Physicians, the medical group practice of McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (@TXMedCenter), came live early this year in one of the country’s largest and most robust health information exchanges. In Houston, where many large health systems use disparate EHR systems, this is a particularly important milestone because the single interface to Healthconnect enables the group practice to exchange records with any other institution participating in the HIE.

Coordinated Care Oklahoma

OK-CoordinatedCareCoordinated Care Oklahoma (@CCOOklahoma) is the largest Health Information Network serving medical professionals in Oklahoma. It was founded to improve healthcare outcomes. CCO helps medical providers coordinate with other members of a patient’s healthcare team, by providing secure access to real-time, aggregated, complete medical records.

CCO is First Cerner HIE with DoD Connection – Coordinated Care Oklahoma announced a true system to system connection serving the U.S. Department of Defense (@DeptofDefense). CCO’s technology platform is a joint venture between Cerner (@Cerner) and Browsersoft (@Browsersoft) and will serve active duty military personnel, retired military and their families with Electronic Health Records (EHR) through CCO’s Health Information Exchange (HIE).
