“Meaningful Use” to be Defined Soon

Meaningful Use of Certified EHR

..

ONCHIT Deputy National Coordinator, Charles Friedman spoke at the Government Health IT Conference today stating a formal definition of “meaningful use” should be released soon. In his definition the “meaningful user” will use a certified EHR, exchange their systems health information data, and reports on quality measures. He also stated providers using these systems will be the ones receiving the payment incentives. As for adoption of standards and HIE certification criteria, it is expected to be revealed by the end of the year.

So, no news here. But no changes either.

The conference is June 4-5 and sponsored by HIMSS with the mission as follows:

This year’s conference has been designed to introduce the health IT government and business communities to the health IT programs, policies, and people that the new administration has chosen to clear a path to healthcare transformation. Two tracks will be connected by keynote and plenary presentations that underline the theme of this year’s Government Health IT Conference: Driving Transformation Through Government Health IT.
