Largest public HIE in the country will deploy SaaS EMPI to improve matching, lower costs, and as part of its move to HITRUST-certified cloud infrastructure
Verato, Inc. (@Verato_Software), a leading provider of cloud-based patient matching solutions, announced that Healthix (@healthix), the largest public Health Information Exchange (HIE) in the country, will replace its previous enterprise master patient index (EMPI) system with the Verato Universal™ MPI to improve its patient matching as part of its move to a HITRUST-certified cloud infrastructure. The Verato Universal MPI is a HITRUST-certified software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution that harnesses the power of Referential Matching technology to deliver the most accurate patient matching available in the market place today.
With over 16 million patients spanning hundreds of healthcare organizations in greater New York, Healthix sought a proven master patient index (MPI) solution with excellent capacity, scalability, and matching accuracy that could fit into its secure system framework. After a thoughtful evaluation of its existing technology as well as other MPI vendors, Healthix chose the Verato Universal MPI because it offers the strong performance of Referential Matching in a high-availability, HITRUST-certified cloud environment. In addition to meeting accuracy, performance, and security demands, switching to the Verato Universal MPI is projected to help Healthix avoid future costs as it continues to grow and increase service offerings by eliminating hardware and software ongoing annual support costs, eliminating upgrade costs, and by dramatically reducing the costs of manual data stewardship and manual matching processes.
“We are always looking to innovate and improve our technology stack, and our MPI is a foundational component of the technology foundation that supports Healthix services,” said Todd Rogow, SVP & Chief Information Officer. “We are well on our way to a full HITRUST-certified environment, and the Verato Universal MPI perfectly fits into our vision. It checks all the boxes: better performance, better security, better matching, and lower future cost.”
Healthix first engaged Verato in 2016 to improve upon its existing patient matching software with Verato Auto-Steward™, a simple cloud-based plug-in that can work with any existing EMPI or EHR to automatically resolve its most difficult match decisions. Verato Auto-Steward processes currently average approximately 40,000 of match decisions a day for Healthix and has reduced significantly the number of “potential duplicates” that were previously flagged for manual review. Once Verato becomes the primary service for Healthix, that number will increase up to 1,000,000 per day. This performance is a testament to the power of Referential Matching, so it was a natural next step for Healthix to evaluate the Verato Universal MPI.
“Legacy MPI technologies have had their time,” said Mark LaRow, CEO of Verato. “But like any legacy enterprise software, conventional MPI technologies have grown stagnant in their innovation, they cost too much in maintenance and upgrades, they can’t offer the same benefits as SaaS technologies, and their matching capabilities can’t keep up with current the explosion of healthcare data. The Verato Universal MPI represents the next generation of MPI solutions. It is HITRUST-certified, easy to implement, cost-effective, and uses the new gold standard in matching technology, Referential Matching. Innovative organizations like Healthix are wise to make the switch when they need superior matching technology at a fraction of the cost.”
Healthix is the largest public Health Information Exchange (HIE) in the country, bringing together over 600 hundred healthcare organizations, from small ambulatory practices to large, complex health systems, at thousands of locations across New York City and Long Island. Healthix provides secure access to clinical data of more than 16 million patients, with their consent, for the purpose of treatment, care coordination and quality improvement. Data available through Healthix includes a broad range of clinical information electronically delivered with each patient encounter, 24/7 in real-time.
Verato offers a cloud-based matching platform that links and matches identities across disparate databases or organizations with the highest accuracy rates in the industry. Verato leverages an extensive self-learning database of U.S. identities as a reference, or universal answer key. And because it is cloud-based, the Verato platform is less expensive, faster to implement, and more scalable than traditional matching technology. Verato is based in McLean, VA.
