Join us every Friday at Five for our weekly top 5 favorites in the world of HIT and HITECH. This week the ONC named the first Authorized Testing and Certifying Bodies. Here are five acronyms associated with certification that you should know.

PECOS –Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System: An on-line CMS application database that has a user interface. It will be used by Eligible Professionals to enroll in the CMS incentive programs.

ONC-ATCB – ONC Authorized Testing and Certification Body or ATCB – Authorized Testing and Certification Body: Entities that have been selected by the ONC through an application process.

CHPL – Certified Health IT Product List: The list that the ONC will be compiling and posting as EHR products are certified.

CCHIT – Certification Commission for Health Information Technology: Based in Chicago this organization has been named as an initial ATCB.

DGI – Drummond Group: Based in Austin TX this organization has been named as an initial ATCB.
