Advance Interoperable Health IT Services to Support HIE

ONCtwitterIn an effort to improve health care delivery and the ability of individuals to get the right care, at the right time and in the right place, ONC recently announced three grant funding opportunity announcements. These three funding opportunities, worth approximately $36 million, demonstrate HHS and ONC’s commitment to making the vision of interoperability described in the Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap a reality. Better access to data where and when it is needed will significantly aid the effort to transform the health care delivery system into one that provides better care, spends health care dollars smarter and results in healthier patients.

Advance Interoperable Health Information Technology Services to Support Health Information Exchange
On February 3, ONC released the Advance Interoperable Health Information Technology Services to Support Health Information Exchange Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), one of the three FOAs. This funding opportunity announcement will leverage the investments and lessons learned from the original State HIE Program and accelerate the widespread adoption and use of health information exchange infrastructure. Furthermore, this funding opportunity supports the HHS-wide effort to achieve the safe and secure exchange and use of electronic health information to improve health and transform care as outlined in the Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap, Connecting Health and Care for the Nation: A Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap Version 1.0.

This two-year grant program will support 10 to 12 state, territories, or state designated entities that leverage investments and lessons learned to advance the standardized, secure, and interoperable movement of health information across organizations, vendors, and geographic boundaries. A total of $28 million will be made available through this ONC program. Organizations will be required to network and share information.

Letters of Intent are due March 2, 2015, 11:59 PM EST. The closing date for applications is April 6, 2015, 11:59 PM EST. View the grant opportunity.
