HIT Policy Committee Meeting

The Health IT (HIT) Policy Committee was created under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) and charged with making recommendations to the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology on a policy framework for the development and adoption of a nationwide health information infrastructure, including standards for the exchange of patient medical information. The Committee meets once a month.

November’s meeting was held on the 6th after a cancelled October meeting due to the shutdown. Part of the meeting covered a HIT Policy Committee Meeting

Data Analytics Update. The report looks at eligible professionals and hospitals that have attested to stage 1 of Meaningful Use and what is the status of the sytems they used. Do the vendors of those systems have products that have obtained 2014 Edition certifications? Here are some of the facts and highlights:

  • 84% of EHs that have attested to Stage 1 used a primary vendor that had any 2014 Edition product as of 10/21/13. Primary EHR vendors are the vendors whose products are certified to the most 2011 Edition certification criteria in the provider’s EHR system.
  • 86% of large hospitals have primary vendors with 2014 edition products meeting Base EHR Definitions. 12% of large hospitals have primary vendors with 2011 edition products only.
  • 81% of all hospitals attesting to stage 1 MU have primary vendors with 2014 edition products that meet Base EHR definition.

  • By Physician specialty these percentages have vendors that have 2014 edition products that meet Base EHR definition.
