TripleCare, a telemedicine platform designed for skilled nursing facilities, is enhancing care delivery and reducing hospital admissions at Covenant skilled nursing facilities in Maine and the Greater Boston area. Florida Hospital used telemedicine during Irma
Waterlogged, under curfew or without power, consumers in need of routine health care were in a tough spot during the days immediately before and after Hurricane Irma’s arrival. Barring an emergency, landing before a physician was almost to impossible. Some health providers used the opportunity to lean on telehealth services as a part of their disaster response.

Local organizations get $1M for tele-medicine
The Terre Haute-based Indiana Rural Health Association has secured nearly $1 million in federal funds to help support efforts to use technology to bring health care to under-served areas. The association was the lead applicant in obtaining $325,000 for each of the next three years for tele-health support in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.

Telemedicine rules in the District of Columbia underwent a second round of revisions as the District of Columbia Department of Health issued a new set of proposed rules . Based upon the review of the public comments and its Telemedicine Workgroup recommendations, the Board of Medicine amended its initial proposed regulations for greater clarity and to eliminate unnecessary barriers. In a first of its kind collaboration for both parties, schools in Allen County, Kentucky, are joining with Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt so that sick children can receive a more comprehensive array of health care services while attending school through virtual visits with Vanderbilt clinicians. The telemedicine initiative is especially beneficial because there are no pediatricians currently practicing in Scottsville or Allen County

20 FAQs for Telemedicine Providers in Ohio
The Ohio Medical Board just published new FAQs and guidance on practicing via telemedicine, addressed to Ohio physicians and physician assistants. The FAQs follow the Ohio rules for telemedicine prescribing of drugs and controlled substances adopted by the Board in March 2017. The guidance should be welcome news to providers who deliver healthcare services via telemedicine.
