Talent Tuesday: A Look at Professional Salaries

The status of healthcare IT professional salaries in the United States are still on the rise, although reports and studies show that these increases are smaller than they have been in years past. From executives to non-managerial roles, the gender pay gap, and salary ranges by regions in the United States, the state of healthcare IT salaries in the United States is interesting. 2018 HIMSS U.S. Compensation Survey
885 U.S. health information and technology professionals from a wide variety of organizations and positions participated in this years HIMSS (@HIMSS) Compensation Survey. There are six main observations in the “Findings” section of the report. One result showed that while health IT professionals’s salaries are still increasing, these increases are slighter than in the first few years this survey was conducted. Doximity 2018 Physician Compensation Report
Doximity (@doximity) conducted its second annual salary report with 65,000 physicians in the United States from over forty specialties participating. Charlotte, Milwaukee, Jacksonville, Indianapolis and San Jose ranks as the top five areas for highest physicians salaries with Charlotte topping the list at an average of $402,273. The study also showed that the gender wage gap grew from last year to this year, while female physicians earned 26.5 percent less in 2016, they earned 27.7 percent (or $105,000) less in 2017.

2018 Medical Sales Salary Report
MedReps (@MedRepscom) conducted their 8th Annual Medical Sales Salary Report with 2,793 medical sales employees participating. The survey includes representatives that work in field sales and those employed by manufacturers. Updates to technology, changes in customers, development of products and mergers and acquisitions are listed as the “Medical Sales Game Changers.” In 2016, health IT/software came in at the No. 1 top income spot with an average salary of $176,012. In 2017, it dropped out of the top three. Coming in at the top spot this year is capital equipment/durable medical equipment representatives with an average salary of $167,554 (most of this coming from bonuses and commissions, not base salary.)

2018 Annual Salary Survey of Laboratory Professionals
Medical Laboratory Observer’s (@MedicalLabMLO) annual salary survey had 21% increase in responses this year. Despite that, the survey showed less directors and supervisors participated, most likely causing the decrease in overall average salary (from $84,654 in 2017 to $79,006 in 2018.)
