State Health Information Exchanges (HIE) come in all shapes and sizes but have one thing in common: To improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care delivered in their states. The Hawai`i Health Information Exchange (Hawai`i HIE)

The Hawai‘i HIE is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization established in 2006 to enhance care coordination, to improve the health outcomes of Hawai‘i’s patients and reduce the cost of care for both patients and healthcare providers. To support these goals, in September 2009, Hawai‘i HIE was designated by the state to develop a seamless, effective, and secure statewide health information exchange that ultimately links to the nationwide health information network. Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange is a robust, interoperable data exchange system that enables all health care providers, health plans, clinics, and hospitals to contribute and access complete health information with confidence. This secure exchange empowers participants to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of whole-person care, enhancing health outcomes for patients and reducing health care costs for the community.

Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange Improving Data Quality –
The Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange is preparing to take patient data exchange to a new level of sophistication. It is investing in new tools and processes to improve the quality of patient data and standardizing the terms to benefit all providers.

California – Manifest Medex

Manifest MedEx is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health information exchanges (HIEs), combining 11.7 million claims records from Blue Shield of California and Anthem Blue Cross and 5 million clinical patient records from 150 participating partners. Manifest MedEx supports physicians, nurses, hospitals and health plans in sharing critical health information to ensure that patients receive the safest, highest-quality care possible. The California Integrated Data Exchange and Inland Empire Health Information Exchange merged to create Manifest Medex.

Manifest MedEx Achieves HITRUST CSF® Certification, Underscores Commitment to Securing Patients’ Personal Health Information – Manifest MedEx (MX) announced that its systems and applications that support its notification and longitudinal patient record services—MX Notify and MX Access—have successfully met the requirements of HITRUST CSF® certification, demonstrating the highest levels of security in the healthcare industry. As a standards organization, HITRUST® has spent over a decade integrating regulatory requirements like HIPAA and related best practices in security to help businesses manage their information security risk and compliance requirements.

California – SacValley MedShare

SacValley MedShare (@svmshie) is a member of the California Association of Health Information Exchanges (CAHIE) and serves the 16-county region of California, north of Sacramento, which includes the North Central Valley and the surrounding mountainous terrain. Its region is largely rural and mountainous, with travel limited by climate and season in much of the area. Good communication is critical to coordinate care between primary care, specialists, hospital providers, and skilled nursing care facilities that fulfill a vital role in post-discharge care for many patients.

UCSF Live With SacValley MedShare – SacValley MedShare brought live their connection to UCSF via Eheatlh eXchange.

healtheConnect Alaska

healtheConnect Alaska (@akehealth) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, organized and managed by Alaskans and tasked by the State of Alaska’s Department of Health and Social Services, to provide safe, secure transport for health information in order to improve quality and safety of patient care and increase efficiencies for hospitals and medical practices. healtheConnect Alaska provides health information exchange and direct secure messaging services to more than 20 hospitals and 450 healthcare organizations across Alaska.

Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NeHII)

Nebraska Health Information Initiative (@NeHIIorg) is leading the effort to create a secure, online, web-based Health Information Exchange designed to serve the state of Nebraska. Improved delivery of health care information and reduced health care costs are good for all citizens of Nebraska. The state has a proud tradition and reputation of providing the finest health care possible to its citizens. The HIE will help health care providers take health care to the next level.

Nebraska Health Information Initiative Selects InterSystems to Power Shared Health Information – InterSystems, a provider of information technology platforms for health, business and government applications, announced hat Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NEHII), the statewide health information exchange (HIE) designed to share clinical and administrative data among providers in Nebraska and neighboring states, has selected InterSystems to serve as the foundational technology for the HIE. NEHII will run on InterSystems HealthShare.

Health Share Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania (HSX)

PA-HSX-200HealthShare Exchange (@HealthShareExch) is the greater Philadelphia region’s health information exchange for the five-county Southeastern Pennsylvania region. HSX is a unique, membership-dues-supported nonprofit formed by the Delaware Valley’s hospitals/health systems and healthcare insurers that links the electronic medical record systems of different hospital health systems, medical centers, and clinics — and the claims data of healthcare insurers — to make this information accessible at inpatient and outpatient points of care, including medical practice offices.

HSX Expanding Health Information Services in New Jersey – HealthShare Exchange (HSX) has increased its reach by expanding data services to more healthcare provider organizations in New Jersey. Following on the addition last year of services to Jefferson Health Cherry Hill, Stratford, and Washington Township (the former Kennedy Health System), HSX is now exchanging patient health information with Penn Medicine’s Princeton Health and will soon do so with VirtuaPhysicianPartners™, the clinically integrated network of practices associated with Virtua health system. HealthShare Exchange has also begun sending patient data to the New Jersey Health Information Network (NJHIN), the entity designated by New Jersey to coordinate health information exchange in the state.

Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN)

DHIN-twitterDelaware Health Information Network’s (@DHIN_HIE) roots reach back to 1997 when the Delaware General Assembly enacted the organization as a public/private partnership. The objective was, and remains today, to advance the creation of a statewide health information network that addresses the state’s needs for timely, reliable and relevant health care information. In 2007, DHIN “went live” – meaning it became the first operational statewide health information exchange in the nation.

Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN)

The Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (@MiHIN) is Michigan’s initiative to continuously improve health care quality, efficiency, and patient safety by promoting secure, electronic exchange of health information through the MiHIN Health Information Services Cloud (HISC). MiHIN represents a growing network of public and private organizations working to overcome data sharing barriers, reduce costs, and ultimately advance the health of Michigan’s population.

Interoperability Institute launched to grow health IT workforce, learning and collaboration – MiHIN is launching a new not-for-profit organization focused on innovative research designed to accelerate national interoperability and to attract and develop health information technology (IT) talent.

Michigan – Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC)

Great Lakes Health Connect (@GLHC_HIE) is one of the largest and most successful Health Information Exchanges in the country and is growing rapidly. GLHC is committed to creating care-connected communities across Michigan. Their vision is to enhance patient experience, improve health outcomes, and reduce costs across the continuum of care.

New Partner, Secure Exchange Solutions – Great Lakes Health Connect has a new partner, Secure Exchange Solutions (SES). SES is a leading provider of interoperable, cloud-based clinical data exchange and Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered clinical review technologies. GLHC chose SES to replace their legacy Direct technology.

Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN)

KS-KHINKHIN (@khininfo) capitalizes on the unique strengths that local communities and regions bring to the HIE and ensure that individual regions or communities have the decision-making authority to address local or regional health-care initiatives.

KHIN and MinuteClinic Nationwide Data Connection – The Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN) and its subsidiary KAMMCO Health Solutions (KHS) announced they have completed a secure electronic connection allowing the seamless sharing of data between MinuteClinic, a CVS Health company, and the KHIN/KHS network. The KHIN/KHS network connects over 6,900 health care organizations across the nation with health information exchanges in Connecticut, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey and South Carolina. The exchanges are supported by the respective state medical societies.

Texas – Healthcare Access San Antonio (HASA)

TX-hasa_twitterHealthcare Access San Antonio (@HASA_TX) offers value-based, patient-centered information services intended to improve the health status of individuals and the communities it serves. HASA brings together healthcare providers from larger health systems to single physician practices-to enable the secure exchange of health information throughout Central Texas, ensuring that providers have this information securely at their fingertips when and where they need it.

Diameter Health Announces New Partnerships with Leading Health Information Exchanges – Diameter Health, developer of a clinical data integration platform, announced partnerships with two additional health information exchanges (HIEs), continuing its support of innovative organizations dedicated to sharing clinical data to improve healthcare quality. New Diameter Health customers include Washington State’s OneHealthPort and a pilot with Healthcare Access San Antonio (HASA).
