State Health Information Exchanges (HIE) come in all shapes and sizes but have one thing in common: To improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care delivered in their states. The Hawai`i Health Information Exchange (Hawai`i HIE)

The Hawai‘i HIE is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization established in 2006 to enhance care coordination, to improve the health outcomes of Hawai‘i’s patients and reduce the cost of care for both patients and healthcare providers. To support these goals, in September 2009, Hawai‘i HIE was designated by the state to develop a seamless, effective, and secure statewide health information exchange that ultimately links to the nationwide health information network. Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange is a robust, interoperable data exchange system that enables all health care providers, health plans, clinics, and hospitals to contribute and access complete health information with confidence. This secure exchange empowers participants to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of whole-person care, enhancing health outcomes for patients and reducing health care costs for the community.

Hawaii Health Information Exchange now routing patient data to health care providers – Hawaii Health Information Exchange is developing a community master patient index to increase providers’ and patients’ access to patients’ most up-to-date health information, Becker’s Healthcare reports.

Hawaii Health Information Exchange First to Integrate with IllumiCare’s Smart Ribbon® to Aid in More Informed Medical Decision Making – IllumiCare announces the launch of the Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange (HHIE) app onto its Smart Ribbon platform deployed at The Queen’s Medical Center (Queen’s), the largest private non-profit hospital in Honolulu. Other deployments in Hawai‘i will soon follow.

Alabama One Health Record

The One Health Record® system was created as Alabama’s health information exchange (HIE) through a federal grant awarded to the state in 2009. Under the guidance of the Alabama Health Information Commission, One Health Record® has emerged as an interoperable, two-way data exchange system between providers, hospitals and others within Alabama and in other states.

Missouri & Alabama: Bridging patient care between two states using statewide Health Information Exchanges – Missouri Health Connect and Alabama One Health Record announces their go-live of bi-directional CCD exchange of patient health records.

Connecticut – CTHealthLink

CTHealthLink (@CTHealthLink) is a physician-led health information network delivered in partnership with the Connecticut State Medical Society (CSMS) offering a suite of health information technology tools to help health professionals across the state of Connecticut CONNECT. Maine – HealthInfoNet

HealthInfoNet (@hinfonet) is a Maine-based, independent nonprofit designated by the State of Maine to operate Maine’s statewide health information exchange. The HIE links medical information from separate health care sites to create a single electronic patient health record. This record is accessible to a patient’s authorized health care providers to support treatment. HealthInfoNet provides a secure, standardized electronic system where health care providers can share important patient information, giving them the tools they need to make more informed treatment decisions, especially in an emergency.

Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network (WISHIN)

wi-shin-twitterIn October 2010 Wisconsin officially announced its intention to designate WISHIN (@WISHIN_Pulse), a not-for-profit organization formed by the Wisconsin Hospital Association, Wisconsin Medical Society, Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality, and Wisconsin Health Information Organization, as the State-designated entity to govern statewide HIE. DE on October 25, 2010. WISHIN is responsible for implementing Wisconsin’s Strategic and Operational Plan. The plan requires multi-stakeholder collaboration and emphasizes ongoing development of government and policy structures.

Advocate Aurora Health to Substantially Expand Clinical Data Shared through WISHIN Pulse – WISHIN Wisconsin’s is pleased to announce that new sources of clinical data from Advocate Aurora Health will soon be available in the WISHIN Pulse community health record. The additional clinical data will enhance care-improvement and care-coordination efforts in Milwaukee County
and throughout the state.

Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN)

Georgia Health Information Network (@GeorgiaHIE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a healthier Georgia by facilitating the use and secure exchange of electronic health information so providers have the information they need at the point of care. GaHIN’s two products, GeorgiaDirect and Georgia ConnectedCare, connect providers statewide and nationally and are free for credentialed, authorized Georgia users.

WellStar, Georgia’s Largest Health System, Now Connected to GaHIN –
WellStar Health System and GaHIN are now connected, allowing physicians and facilities of the state’s largest health system to exchange patient data with other providers across Georgia and neighboring states. Find out more about this and other news in GaHIN’s June Newsletter.

Michigan – Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC)

Great Lakes Health Connect (@GLHC_HIE) is one of the largest and most successful Health Information Exchanges in the country and is growing rapidly. GLHC is committed to creating care-connected communities across Michigan. Their vision is to enhance patient experience, improve health outcomes, and reduce costs across the continuum of care.

Bridge Referral Application – For years GLHC has made minor changes and improvements to the Referral Application. In June 2019 the statewide network of organizations will begin using an upgraded version of the referral application, called the Bridge Referral Application.

Colorado Regional Health Information Exchange (CORHIO)

CORHIO200CORHIO (@CORHIO) manages one of the country’s largest and most successful health information exchange networks and works to improve healthcare through the use of information technology and data exchange.

CORHIO’s Morgan Honea: Interoperability Is Moving Forward Solidly in Colorado – Statewide HIE CORHIO is moving forward in a number of areas to bring greater interoperability and interconnectedness to Colorado healthcare, reports CORHIO CEO Morgan Honea.

North Dakota Health Information Network (NDHIN)

The North Dakota Health Information Network (NDHIN) is dedicated to improving healthcare by creating a secure, medical record sharing network for providers and consumers. The Network aims to empower patients by ensuring their medical data remains safe and private.

North Dakota Health Information Network Upgrades to the Orion Health Amadeus Platform to Improve the Exchange of Critical Clinical and Medication Data – Orion Health, a provider of population health management, interoperability and precise health solutions, announced that the North Dakota Health Information Network (NDHIN) has expanded its relationship with the company by upgrading to the Orion Health Amadeus Platform. Using Amadeus, NDHIN providers can seamlessly share, view and receive patients’ immunization records, medication lists, histories, discharge summaries, lab results and radiology reports as well as share referrals electronically.

Texas – Healthcare Access San Antonio (HASA)

TX-hasa_twitterHealthcare Access San Antonio (@HASA_TX) offers value-based, patient-centered information services intended to improve the health status of individuals and the communities it serves. HASA brings together healthcare providers from larger health systems to single physician practices-to enable the secure exchange of health information throughout Central Texas, ensuring that providers have this information securely at their fingertips when and where they need it.

SHARE and HASA Health Information Organization are now connected HIE to HIE through SHIEC! – The Arkansas health information exchange (HIE), State Health Alliance for Records Exchange (SHARE), is now connected to HASA Health Information Organization. Through this connection SHARE and HASA are now exchanging admission, discharge and transfer (ADT) notifications for patients who live in Arkansas and Texas. Moving in a phased approach, in the future, of sending Continuity of Care Documents (CCDs) based on the patient’s home of record.

New York -Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY)

NY-SHINY-200The SHIN-NY is the only HIE that provides universal access regardless of network or EHR system. New York State has made a significant investment in the SHIN-NY and in 2016 they set a goal of connecting 100% of the PPS across the state to the SHIN-NY. The eight RHIOs that make up the SHIN-NY are working directly with the PPS organizations to meet their needs.
