State Health Information Exchanges (HIE) come in all shapes and sizes but have one thing in common: To improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care delivered in their states. Five ways that health information exchange can help with vaccination efforts
The Brookings Institute reports that HIEs electronically retrieve, organize, and share medical data between clinical points of service, like doctors, hospitals, and specialty care providers (including mental health and telemedicine). While they are designed to exchange lab results, prescriptions, and so-called admission, discharge and transfer records confidentially and securely, they could also be used by public health officials to monitor outbreaks and, importantly, vaccination status.

Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP)

Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (@crisphealth) is a regional health information exchange (HIE) serving Maryland and the District of Columbia. CRISP is a non-profit organization advised by a wide range of stakeholders who are responsible for healthcare throughout the region. CRISP has been formally designated as Maryland’s statewide health information exchange by the Maryland Health Care Commission.

careMESH and CRISP DC Partner to Enhance D.C.’s Healthcare Provider Directory In Project’s Second Phase – careMESH, a healthcare communications platform that enables hospitals and clinicians to securely notify and share patient data with all physicians across the United States, announced it is implementing phase two of the D.C. Provider Directory in partnership with the District’s Health Information Exchange, CRISP DC. The enhancements will help to address many stakeholders’ current gaps in care coordination and are available for all users of the HIE.

California – Manifest Medex

Manifest MedEx is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health information exchanges (HIEs), combining 11.7 million claims records from Blue Shield of California and Anthem Blue Cross and 5 million clinical patient records from 150 participating partners. Manifest MedEx supports physicians, nurses, hospitals and health plans in sharing critical health information to ensure that patients receive the safest, highest-quality care possible. The California Integrated Data Exchange and Inland Empire Health Information Exchange merged to create Manifest Medex.

Manifest MedEx Receives NCQA Data Aggregator Validation Status – MX announced it has successfully completed NCQA’s Data Aggregator Validation (DAV) program and earned the NCQA status of Validated with Exception, joining only three other data aggregators in the country with this credential.

California – SacValley MedShare

SacValley MedShare (@svmshie) is a member of the California Association of Health Information Exchanges (CAHIE) and serves the 16-county region of California, north of Sacramento, which includes the North Central Valley and the surrounding mountainous terrain. Its region is largely rural and mountainous, with travel limited by climate and season in much of the area. Good communication is critical to coordinate care between primary care, specialists, hospital providers, and skilled nursing care facilities that fulfill a vital role in post-discharge care for many patients.

More Data Feeds Go Live – Providence St. Joseph Health brought live their HL7 Lab feed and Northeastern Rural Health brought live their HL7 Lab and Immunization feeds as well as CCD contributions to the exchange.

Arizona – Health Current

Health Current (@AZHealthCurrent), is a partner that gives providers the information they need to make better clinical decisions and keep people healthy. The HIE believes more complete information is more meaningful. It makes healthcare transformation possible. And Health Current is central to this progress, integrating information technology and care delivery to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

Health Current Selects NowPow as Technology Partner to Implement a Statewide Social Determinants of Health Closed Loop Referral System in Arizona – Health Current announced the selection of NowPow as the vendor of choice for Arizona’s closed loop referral system (CLRS) to address social determinants of health (SDOH) needs in Arizona.

Health Share Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania (HSX)

PA-HSX-200HealthShare Exchange (@HealthShareExch) is the greater Philadelphia region’s health information exchange for the five-county Southeastern Pennsylvania region. HSX is a unique, membership-dues-supported nonprofit formed by the Delaware Valley’s hospitals/health systems and healthcare insurers that links the electronic medical record systems of different hospital health systems, medical centers, and clinics — and the claims data of healthcare insurers — to make this information accessible at inpatient and outpatient points of care, including medical practice offices.

HealthShare Exchange Adds Quil as an HSX MarketStreet Partner – HSX and Quil, the digital health company helping people navigate health and care, announced that Quil has signed on as an HSX MarketStreet™ partner. This partnership enables HealthShare Exchange members to implement the Quil Engage platform and leverage MarketStreet data to offer informed, comprehensive patient care, while giving patients access to guidance, education and tools from providers.

Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN)

DHIN-twitterDelaware Health Information Network’s (@DHIN_HIE) roots reach back to 1997 when the Delaware General Assembly enacted the organization as a public/private partnership. The objective was, and remains today, to advance the creation of a statewide health information network that addresses the state’s needs for timely, reliable and relevant health care information. In 2007, DHIN “went live” – meaning it became the first operational statewide health information exchange in the nation.

DHIN Expands Its Clinical Data Pool with Curative – Real-time access to patients’ COVID-19 test results is critical to Delaware’s healthcare practitioners, and Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN) is pleased to welcome its newest data sender, Curative. The nascent start-up partnered with the State of Delaware last spring to augment testing efforts statewide, and to date, has processed nearly 800,000 COVID-19 tests for Delawareans.

New York -Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY)

NY-SHINY-200The SHIN-NY is the only HIE that provides universal access regardless of network or EHR system. New York State has made a significant investment in the SHIN-NY and in 2016 they set a goal of connecting 100% of the PPS across the state to the SHIN-NY. The eight RHIOs that make up the SHIN-NY are working directly with the PPS organizations to meet their needs.

HealtheConnections and Innovative Management Solutions (IMSNY) Partner to Launch HIE Data Sharing for Behavioral Health Independent Practice Associations – HealtheConnections (@_myhec) is pleased to announce a partnership to deliver critical patient care information in near real-time with Innovative Management Solutions (IMSNY), a joint venture between two of the largest behavioral health-focused Independent Practice Associations (IPAs) in New York State.

Ready Computing Joins Healthix’s (@healthix) Vendor Interoperability Program to Offer ‘Channels’ Connected Care Solution to Health Information Exchange Participants – Ready Computing, a provider of healthcare IT services and solutions, is pleased to announce their participation in Healthix’s Vendor Interoperability Program.

Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN)

Georgia Health Information Network (@GeorgiaHIE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a healthier Georgia by facilitating the use and secure exchange of electronic health information so providers have the information they need at the point of care. GaHIN’s two products, GeorgiaDirect and Georgia ConnectedCare, connect providers statewide and nationally and are free for credentialed, authorized Georgia users.

Georgia Health Information Network Selects Velatura Public Benefit Corporation to Provide Advanced Technology Platform to Support Interoperability – GaHIN has selected Velatura Public Benefit Corporation (Velatura) as its technology partner to advance interoperability and deliver new functionalities.

Colorado Regional Health Information Exchange (CORHIO)

CORHIO200CORHIO (@CORHIO) manages one of the country’s largest and most successful health information exchange networks and works to improve healthcare through the use of information technology and data exchange.

10 Years of Health Information Exchange: A Special Report From CORHIO – One fundamental starting principle for the HIE, when awarded the ARRA HITECH funding and the Colorado Health Foundation grant, was that the organization would build a robust Health Information Exchange right from the start – in terms of reach to participants in the state and the number of products and services offered. Texas – Healthcare Access San Antonio (HASA)

HASA brings together healthcare providers from larger health systems to single physician practices-to enable the secure exchange of health information throughout Central Texas, ensuring that providers have this information securely at their fingertips when and where they need it.

Aspen Physician Network and HASA HIE Launching a Clinically Integrated Network – HASA and Aspen Physician Network, an independent specialty physician group in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, have announced that HASA will be the technology foundation for a new clinically integrated network (CIN), which will reduce costs, increase efficiencies, and improve the quality of care for Aspen Physician Network’s patients.

Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE)

IHIE-200Indiana Health Information Exchange (@IndianaHIE) operates the nation’s largest health information exchange, providing a secure, robust and interoperable health information technology network that connects over 150 hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, community health clinics and other healthcare providers.

Regenstrief, IHIE nominated for TechPoint Mira Award – TechPoint has announced Regenstrief Institute and the Indiana Health Information Exchange — the Indiana Pandemic Information Collaborative (IPIC) and the Regenstrief COVID-19 Dashboard as nominees for the 2021 Mira Awards. The awards recognize the best tech in Indiana.

Idaho Health Data Exchange (IDHE)
The Idaho Health Data Exchange (@idahohde), a non-profit 501(c)(3) company, is Idaho’s statewide Health Information Exchange, dedicated to meeting the needs of healthcare providers and ensuring that Idaho’s citizens receive the most effective health services possible. To achieve these goals, IHDE is working with a wide-array of stakeholders and actively building a best in breed technology infrastructure to provide access to reliable data and information, combining traditional healthcare data with other data sources to help address the medical, behavioral, and social needs that influence the well-being of Idahoans.

Los Angeles Network for Enhanced Services

LANES (@LANES_HIE) is an independent, non-profit organization developing a health information exchange (HIE) for all hospitals, clinics, and health plans that provide care to L.A. County residents. LANES seeks to make patients health information available safely and securely, when and where it is needed to enable better clinical care and care coordination.

L.A. Care Partners with LANES for California Health Information Exchange Onboarding Program – L.A. Care Health Plan is pleased to announce it is partnering with LANES, the regional health information exchange (HIE) for Los Angeles County, to help enroll Medi-Cal and Cal MediConnect outpatient practices into the California Health Information Exchange Onboarding Program (Cal-HOP).
