State HIE News and Updates 9-2-16

State Health Information Exchanges (HIE) come in all shapes and sizes but have one thing in common: To improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care delivered in their states. Catch all the latest updates on our Twitter List of HIEs. Here are updates being reported from these organizations.

PA-HSX-200Health Share Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania (HSX)

HealthShare Exchange (@HealthShareExch) is the greater Philadelphia region’s health information exchange for the five-county Southeastern Pennsylvania region. HSX is a unique, membership-dues-supported nonprofit formed by the Delaware Valley’s hospitals/health systems and healthcare insurers that links the electronic medical record systems of different hospital health systems, medical centers, and clinics — and the claims data of healthcare insurers — to make this information accessible at inpatient and outpatient points of care, including medical practice offices.

HSX Update: Steady, Continued Uptake of Services – Several more partnerships have been created this past summer for HSX.  The Freedom Valley YMCA signed on to take advantage of HSX’s Direct secure messaging service in order to share care information electronically on patients who have been referred to the Y’s Diabetes Prevention Program. Aria Health Physician Services and Esperanza Health Center have begun using HSX’s Encounter Notification Service. Doylestown Health is one of the first to go live with HSX’s Automated Care Team Finder service. Finally, HSX and the American Red Cross Eastern Pennsylvania Region have partnered up to enhance Greater Philadelphia’s ability to locate patients who have received healthcare in the region either during large-scale emergencies or on a routine basis.

Delaware HDHIN-twitterealth Information Network (DHIN)

Delaware Health Information Network’s (@DHIN_HIE) roots reach back to 1997 when the Delaware General Assembly enacted the organization as a public/private partnership. The objective was, and remains today, to advance the creation of a statewide health information network that addresses the state’s needs for timely, reliable and relevant health care information. In 2007, DHIN “went live” – meaning it became the first operational statewide health information exchange in the nation.

Delaware Health Information Network Seeks Gold Standard of Data Security – Currently one threat to HIEs is securing their healthcare data and many states view HITRUST CSF as the “gold standard” for measuring and certifying security management programs. Delaware Health Information Network, along with BluePrint Healthcare IT (@BluePrintHIT), has announced they will pursue HITRUST (@HITRUST) Certification in accordance with the HITRUST Common Security Framework (CSF).

CORHIO200Colorado Regional Health Information Exchange (CORHIO)

CORHIO (@CORHIO) manages one of the country’s largest and most successful health information exchange (HIE) networks and works to improve healthcare through the use of information technology and data exchange.

Nearly 70 CORHIO Participants Have Now Reported Close to 500,000 Immunizations to CIIS Using HIE – By using existing HIE technology, CORHIO is working with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (@CDPHE) to help with the submission of immunization reports.  Through the secure CORHIO network 494,695 immunizations have been reported since June 2013.

Michigan – Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC)

Great Lakes Health Connect (@GLHC_HIE) is one of the larGLHC twittergest and most successful Health Information Exchanges in the country and is growing rapidly. GLHC is committed to creating care-connected communities across Michigan. Their vision is to enhance patient experience, improve health outcomes, and reduce costs across the continuum of care.

Senior Living and Care Provider Organization Joins Great Lakes Heath Connect Statewide Health Information Network – Senior health care and service providers were left out of the financial incentives offered in the Affordable Care Act. For this reason the adoption of HIE has been minimal in this sector. Recently, however, Great Lakes Health Connect has made the leap to expand its health information exchange network through collaboration with Senior Care Resources (SCR), a subsidiary of LeadingAge Michigan.

VITL-twitterVermont Information Technology Leaders (VITL)

VITL (@VITLVT) is the nonprofit organization that advances health care reform efforts in Vermont through the use of health information technology, and is the legislatively designated operator of the state’s Vermont Health Information Exchange (VHIE).

VITL, OhMD Partner to Deliver Secure Texting Service – Today one of the fastest and easiest ways to communicate is through text messaging. With this in mind, Vermont Information Technology Leaders, Inc. has chosen to partner with OhMD (@ohmdapp) in order to bring a secure, HIPAA compliant text messaging service to Vermont health care providers and their patients.

UT-UHIN-200Utah Health Information Network (UHIN)

UHIN (#UHIN) has been in operation since 1993 beginning as a claims “post office.” Today it also operates the Clinical Health Information Exchange (cHIE), which empowers doctors and patients to work together for safer, better-coordinated care by making crucial information available to doctors at the point of care.

The cHIE Grows in Central Utah with Canyon View Medical Group! – UHIN has had a productive summer thus far adding 55 new data sources to it’s network. The most recent collaboration is with Canyon View Medical Group, which is contributing Continuity of Care Documents, CCDs, to the cHIE Clinical Portal. Canyon View Medical Group includes four family medicine clinics, two orthopedics clinics, two pediatrics clinics, and three women’s care clinics, all located throughout Utah Valley.

Coordinated Care OklahomaOK-CoordinatedCare

Coordinated Care Oklahoma (@CCOOklahoma) is the largest Health Information Network serving medical professionals in Oklahoma. It was founded to improve healthcare outcomes. CCO helps medical providers coordinate with other members of a patient’s healthcare team, by providing secure access to real-time, aggregated, complete medical records.

Patient Record Sharing Increases Using Carequality Interoperability Framework – Nationwide health data sharing takes another leap forward as the early adopters of Carequality announced they’ve made it easier to exchange data between EHRs, RLS, and HIEs, leveraging a central provider directory and common set of rules. At select sites, providers using athenahealth®, eClinicalWorks, Epic, HIETexas, NextGen and Surescripts are now sharing health information with other providers using the Carequality Interoperability Framework.
