Med-Surg Moments Podcast Marks Successful First Year

AACN Launches Nursing Voices, Nursing Votes 2020
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (@AACNursing) is pleased to announce the second biennial Nursing Voices, Nursing Votes, a nonpartisan initiative to encourage nursing deans, faculty, and students amplify their voices during the 2020 election season. Building on the success of the 2018 initiative, which garnered more than 500 commitments to register and vote, AACN looks forward to gaining even more support this year within the academic nursing community.

Kenya D. Williams, MSN, RN, HSM Earns Certified Association Executive Credential
American Society of Association Executives (@ASAEcenter) announced that National Student Nurses’ Association’s (@NSNAinc) Director of Governance and Policy, Kenya D. Williams, MSN, RN, HSM, has earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE ® ) designation from the CAE Commission of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). The CAE is the highest professional credential in the association industry. Less than five percent of all association professionals have achieved this mark of excellence.

NANN’s Newborn Safe Sleep Guideline
The National Association of Neonatal Nurses (@NeonatalNurses) released their Newborn Safe Sleep guideline, the only clinical practice guideline that addresses the challenges of and provides recommendations on implementing safe sleep practices in the hospital setting for children between birth and 1 year of age. The guideline provides evidence-based protocols for creating a safe sleep environment for infants based on the history of sleep-related deaths and the American Academy of Pediatrics’ safe sleep recommendations between 1992 and 2016. Common controversies and barriers related to implementing safe sleep in the hospital are also discussed, which will empower healthcare providers to improve daily practice with neonates and infants.

Emergency Nurses Association Reinvigorates ESI Triage Course
The Emergency Nurses Association (@ENAorg) relaunched the Emergency Severity Index triage course with a new look and feel that gives emergency nurses a more interactive and engaging experience as they learn the fundamentals of patient screening. Since 1998, the ESI program has been the leading triage resource relied upon by nearly every emergency nurse in the United States to assess patient acuity based on their presentation in the emergency department and the expected level of care they will require.
