MiHIN Expands Team and Offices in Michigan

Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN) (@MiHIN), has expanded with a new executive hire and new office in Ann Arbor as the organization expands services and operation.

Operating since 2010, MiHIN serves as the state-designated entity to improve healthcare quality, efficiency, and patient-safety by sharing electronic health information statewide. In addition to services offered in Michigan; Velatura a wholly-owned subsidiary of MiHIN, exclusively provides MiHIN solutions to organizations throughout the U.S. needing the ability to interoperate and seamlessly share electronic information.

The Ann Arbor office will be the base of operations for Velatura as well as research activities for interoperability and emerging technologies.

“With the expanded footprint of MiHIN services in other states through Velatura, we needed more space for staff who are focused on applied research activities in interoperability and emerging technologies in health information technology,” says Tim Pletcher, Executive Director, MiHIN. “By locating in Ann Arbor, we are also positioning ourselves to attract new talent – full time employees and internships.”

In addition, MiHIN has hired Ken Van Der Wende to serve in a dual role as the Executive Vice President of Velatura and the Chief Commercial Officer of MiHIN.

In this dual role, Van Der Wende, who has successfully started up nearly 100 for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, willlead Velatura in expanding the commercialization of MiHIN services outside of Michigan while strengthening MiHIN’s expertise and impact in health information technology in Michigan.

“We are honored to have Ken join the team,” says Pletcher. “His extensive experience in entrepreneurial work is impressive. He has a strong background in marketing and business development that will drive the expansion and growth of both MiHIN and Velatura. We look forward to an exciting future with Ken.”
