Meet Micky Tripathi, PhD, MPP the New ONC National Coordinator

Last Wednesday, long time health IT veteran Micky Tripathi got the nod to be our next National Coordinator for the ONC. This continues the agency’s history of industry leaders that know the environment being selected to lead. Micky has served on the Board of Directors of the Sequoia Project, the CommonWell Health Alliance, the CARIN Alliance, HL7 International, the HL7 FHIR Foundation, and Datica. He was also the Project Manager of the Argonaut Project, an industry collaboration to accelerate the adoption of FHIR, an Executive Advisor for the investment firm LRV Health, and an Affiliate at the Berkman-Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University. Micky most recently served as Chief Alliance officer for Arcadia, healthcare data and software company focused on population health management and value-based care.

He has recently been a guest on two of our radio shows that I want to share with you.

Most recently Micky spoke to David Harlow about information blocking, FHIR APIs, and whether federal rules go far enough to ensure availability and usability of health data.

Last spring, Micky spoke to Jim Tate about being a pioneer in healthcare IT interoperability and active in the industry at a local and national level.

Micky holds a Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University, and an AB in political science from Vassar College. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., he was a senior operations research analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, DC, for which he received the Secretary of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award.

And not surprising a lot of well wishing on Twitter

And when we say hello to someone we are usually saying good-bye to another. The new ONC had just the right words to say about his predecessor:

And previous Coordinators agree:
