National Nurses Week celebrates the value of nursing and helps educate the public about the vital role nurses play in meeting the healthcare needs of Americans.  In addition, May 12 has been designated Nursing Informatics Day by the American Nurses Association, Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI) and the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Community.

The 2015 Impact of the Informatics Nurse Survey, released at HIMSS15, on April 12-16 in Chicago, Ill, reported 60 percent of the 576 respondents said that informatics nurses have a high degree of impact on the quality of patient care. Survey results also showed that informatics nurses have significant impact on workflow, patient safety and user acceptance.

“National Nurses Week provides an opportunity for us to recognize the contributions of nurses, and specifically informatics nurses, as they ensure quality care for patients and contribute valuable leadership to the transformation of healthcare,” said Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, FAAN, Vice President, Informatics, HIMSS. “With over 6,000 members, the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Community has worked to improve health and healthcare through IT, knowledge sharing and collaboration among professionals.”
